Canadian Tapestry & Texture Centre. PREMIER INTERNATIONAL TAPESTRY EXHIBITION FEB 16 - MAR 9 Queen Elizabeth Park Community & Cultural Centre Country Heritage Park

Welcome, all!
I am very happy to be part of this wonderful tapestry international exhibition in Canada, organized by Ixchel Suarez.

Canadian Tapestry & Texture Centre
On behalf of the Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre, I am proud to announce the participants of our Premier International Tapestry Exhibition.
The Committee was impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of all of the submissions. We want to portray this medium in a Large-Scale format (minimum 1.5 sq mt to 4 sq mt)
The Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre (CTTC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting an awareness and recognition of contemporary tapestry. One of the ways that the CTTC’s mission is carried out is by organizing exhibitions with the purpose of educating the public about contemporary tapestry. The CTTC strives in fostering a cultural environment in which existing art forms are preserved, and new ones are explored. The CTTC provides a platform through which the community can exchange creative knowledge and celebrate our cultural diversity, reinforcing heritage and traditional techniques. We are enthusiastic of bringing such an important group of selected artists for this Premier truly International Exhibitions.
Program; February 16th at 5:30pm @ QEPCCC
February 23rd 7pm @ Country Heritage Park
We are excited to have the presence of some of the artists, at the opening. A round table will take place on February 17th at 3:30pm @ CTTC, following the reception.
Tapestry weavers prove with their work that excellent knowledge of the craft of weaving is not enough. One has to be able to express aesthetically what fills the human soul. This has always been at the centre of the artistic element. Tapestry requires patience. It seems out of sync with the current speed of life, the technological advances and the many forms of rapid communications. Is there a place for such a "slow" and meticulous art as tapestry?
Is there a time for infinite patience?
This impressive collection proves the answer is YES!
We, as tapestry artists, are always looking forward to the moment when we can sit in front of our looms, and enter another dimension of life.
Tapestry is not only about the craft of weaving, nor is it simply textile artists "doing their thing". It opens up possibilities of expression and thought. It opens up possibilities to interpret the past and to examine the present and anticipate the future.
Welcome, all!

Une légende moldave...

MOLDOVA, 1991
Mini tapisserie. Taille 30 x 30

George Grie is a Russian-Canadian artist.
One of the first digital surrealism artists, Grie is known for numerous 3D, 2D, and matte painting images. Grie's artistic style has been heavily influenced by famous surrealists such as René Magritte and Salvador Dalí, fantastic realists Zdzisław Beksiński and Wojciech Siudmak, and surreal photomanipulation artist Jerry Uelsmann. Decorating with Textiles : Boisali Biswas

LIVING ROOM

This is a seating arrangement in our living room, made with a set of box spring and mattress, covered with an Indian block-printed bed cover. The backrest is a big cardboard box covered with my screen-printed fabric. Pillows printed and painted by me, handmade durrie from India, small raised platforms to hold artifacts or books are made with cardboard boxes covered with fabrics, created by me. Art quilts on the wall are by me. This room pretty much serves as my gallery and our music room. The artifacts are all collectibles from different parts of the world, mainly India and some of our creations.

Philips' LED carpet brings the bioluminescent jungle indoors

Philips has partnered with flooring company Desso to develop "light transmissive carpets." The concept integrates LED lighting into fabric, enabling a number of applications. One area that Desso — a big name in commercial and industrial flooring — is interested in is signage. By controlling which areas of the carpet light up, Philips and Desso are able to integrate information into the floor, be it guiding arrows, logos, or text.
